# Ramadan Calorie Tracking: Suhoor, Iftar, and a Deficit That Survives the Month

> Ramadan is two meals, not zero calories. Log suhoor and iftar including juice and sweets, keep protein up, and let the coach use the short eating window you actually have.

Ramadan is not a free fat-loss month. Many people maintain or gain because iftar is dense, juice is unlimited, and suhoor is bread-heavy. The fasting window is long. The eating window is short and calorie-rich. Track the window you have, not the hours you are not eating.

If you have a medical condition, are pregnant, or a clinician told you not to fast, this article is not advice to fast. It is logging guidance for people who already fast. Option 1 is Khatwa. Photograph suhoor and iftar in Arabic. Ask the coach what the window still allows. Free on iOS and Android.

## Two meals still need a log

Suhoor and iftar can easily clear 2,500-3,500 calories without feeling like a "cheat day." Dates, soup, fried pastries, rice, meat, juice, and dessert stack. Photograph each plate as it lands. Log the juice as its own line. Log the knafeh. Skipping "just this tray" is how the month ends +2 kg.

For Arabic dishes specifically, use [AI tracking for Arabic food](https://www.khatwa.se/en/blog/tracking-arabic-food-calories-ai-2026.md). The same photo flow works at a family iftar table.

## Suhoor: protein first, or the afternoon collapses

A suhoor of white bread and sweet tea burns out by mid-afternoon. Eggs, strained yogurt, cheese, leftover chicken, or a yogurt drink with protein powder (if you use it) hold longer. You still want carbohydrates for training if you train after tarawih or before fajr. You do not want suhoor to be only starch.

## Iftar without turning the table into a fight

Break the fast, drink water, eat the dates, then pause. The first 20 minutes are where people overshoot because thirst looks like hunger. Log after the main plate, not after the third dessert. If the coach already has suhoor, it can tell you whether a second rice serving still fits.

Water belongs in the same app. Dehydration after a long fast is not a protein problem. See [why water tracking sits next to meals](https://www.khatwa.se/en/blog/how-water-tracking-speeds-up-fat-loss.md).

## Training in Ramadan

Keep a guided program. Shorten it if sleep is broken. Lift after iftar if you can, or walk. Do not add punishing cardio on an empty stomach to "earn" knafeh. The log plus a 300-calorie average gap is enough if you want fat loss. Maintenance through the month is also a win.

### Log the two meals that actually happen
