Privacy Policy
Last updated: 15/07/2026
This Privacy Policy describes how Khatwa (“we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile application, our marketing website (including the email waitlist), and related services (collectively, the “Service”).
By using the Service, you agree to this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
1. Information we collect
1.1 Account and profile
- Authentication: Email address and password (if you register with email), or identifiers provided by Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In, as applicable.
- Profile and preferences: Such as display name, language, fitness goals, and onboarding information you choose to provide.
- Wellness-related inputs: Information you log in the app, including meals and nutrition estimates, daily summaries, weight entries, workouts or manual activity you enter yourself, streaks, and similar data you voluntarily submit. Manual activity you type into Khatwa is user-authored account data (like meals), stored with your account—it is not gated by the optional health cloud-summary toggle described in section 1.5.
1.2 Photos and media
- Food images: When you use features that analyze meals from a photo, the image is processed to provide nutrition estimates. Images may be transmitted from your device to our servers for that purpose.
- Progress and profile photos: If you upload body progress or profile images, we store them so you can access them in the app.
1.3 Usage of the Service
- Device and app data: Basic technical information needed to run the app (for example, app version, device type, and locale where our software or third-party SDKs collect it).
- Notifications: If you enable reminders, we use your device's notification permissions and settings you configure in the app to schedule or deliver local notifications as described in the app.
We do not use a dedicated third-party analytics SDK in the app as part of this codebase.
1.4 Website and waitlist
- Waitlist: If you submit your email on our site to hear about launches or updates, we store that address (and basic technical details you send with the form, such as language and browser user agent) using our database provider to operate the list and reduce abuse.
1.5 Health and activity data (optional)
You can optionally connect Khatwa to Apple Health (HealthKit) on iOS or Health Connect on Android to show movement next to your food plan. Connecting is not required to use the rest of the Service. You choose Connect (or skip / connect later) and grant permission in the operating system. In this version we read only—we do not write workouts or other data back into Apple Health or Health Connect, and we do not use Google Fit.
What we may read (only after you connect and grant OS permission):
- Active energy (active calories burned)
- Steps
- Distance
Nothing else in this release: no heart rate, no workouts or exercise sessions from the health platforms, no routes/GPS, no basal calories, and no background long-history permissions.
Where this data lives:
- Default / on your device: Daily activity summaries can be processed and cached on your device to show movement next to your food plan. Raw HealthKit / Health Connect samples are not uploaded to Khatwa servers by default.
- Optional cloud daily summaries (off by default; separate in-app toggle with informed consent): If you enable this, Khatwa may upload daily aggregate totals only (for example, steps, active energy, and distance for a local calendar day), plus technical metadata needed for sync (such as provider, timezone window, freshness/status, installation id, and algorithm version). We do not upload raw health records, continuous streams, device names, or heart-rate series.
- Optional Coach activity context (off by default; requires cloud summaries on): If you enable this, when you message Coach, our servers may use recent aggregate activity summaries to personalize advice. Activity is not sent with every background job; it is assembled server-side only for consented Coach use.
- Manual activity entries: If you type a manual activity into Khatwa, that is user-authored account data (like meals or workouts you log yourself), stored in your Khatwa account. It is not gated by the cloud-summary health toggle.
Active calories and related figures are estimates or device-reported measurements that vary by device and source. They are not medical advice, and Khatwa is not a clinical product.
2. How we use your information
We use the information above to:
- Provide, maintain, and improve the Service
- Authenticate you and secure your account
- Power meal logging and track progress
- Show steps and active energy next to your food plan (when Activity & Health is connected)
- Optionally back up and sync daily activity summaries to your account (if you enable cloud summaries)
- Optionally personalize Coach using recent aggregate activity summaries (if you enable Coach activity sharing)
- Operate AI-powered features
- Process subscriptions and entitlements
- Communicate important notices and waitlist updates
- Comply with law and protect users
We do not sell your personal information.
3. Artificial intelligence
Certain features use automated processing, including large language and vision models, to:
- Analyze food photos and suggest nutritional information.
- Provide coaching-style responses in chat, using your messages and relevant context from your profile.
- Optionally use activity summaries with Coach: only if you enable cloud daily summaries and Coach activity sharing. In that case, Coach may use recent aggregate activity totals to personalize advice. Activity is not used for Coach by default.
Safety First
AI outputs are estimates or suggestions, not professional advice. Do not rely on them for medical decisions—including any advice that references activity or calorie-burn figures.
4. How we share information
| Category | Role |
|---|---|
| Cloud infrastructure | Hosting, authentication, database, and functions. |
| AI providers | Processing images and text for analysis and chat. |
| Subscription management | Verifying and managing in-app purchases. |
| Sign-in providers | Apple and/or Google authentication. |
| Food product data | Public databases (e.g., Open Food Facts). |
| App stores | Payment processing and platform compliance. |
If you enable cloud daily summaries or Coach activity sharing, aggregate activity totals may be processed by our cloud infrastructure and—for Coach—our AI provider, under the same categories above. Health platform data itself stays on your device unless you opt in to cloud summaries; we do not introduce additional health-data vendors beyond those listed.
5. Legal bases
If laws such as the GDPR apply, we rely on: performance of a contract (providing the Service), legitimate interests (security, improvement, and fraud prevention), and consent where required (for example, optional permissions such as HealthKit / Health Connect access, cloud activity summaries, or Coach activity sharing).
6. Retention
We retain your information for as long as your account is active. We may retain certain data longer where required by law or for legitimate business purposes (such as resolving disputes), then delete or anonymize it.
Provider-derived cloud activity summaries are retained while your account is active, on a rolling basis aligned with account retention, until you delete those summaries in the app or delete your account. Local device caches of activity data are cleared on logout or disconnect, as applicable.
Disconnecting Activity & Health or deleting Khatwa cloud summaries does not delete records inside Apple Health or Health Connect—those remain under Apple/Google and your control. Deleting your Khatwa account removes Khatwa-held activity preferences, uploaded summaries, and manual activity entries with the account.
Waitlist emails are kept until they are no longer needed for launch communications or you ask us to remove them, subject to applicable law.
You may request account deletion where the app or our support process allows it.
7. Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:
- Access, correct, or delete data
- Object to or restrict processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent
- Lodge a complaint
For Activity & Health controls—connect, skip or connect later, turn cloud summaries on/off, turn Coach activity sharing on/off, disconnect (stop reading on this device), and delete uploaded cloud activity summaries—use Settings → Activity & Health in the app.
For broader privacy requests, contact us at 1medotube@gmail.com.
9. International transfers
We and our service providers may process information in countries other than your own. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) for transfers.
10. Children
The Service is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in some regions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have, contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
11. Third-party services
The Service may contain links or integrations governed by third-party privacy policies (for example, Apple, Google, Health Connect, or Open Food Facts). We encourage you to read those policies. Apple Health and Health Connect remain under Apple's and Google's respective policies and your device settings.
